Winter Carnival 2026

On Thursday the 25th of June our year 3-6 students enjoyed a fantastic day of competition at the Winter Carnival, competing against Merredin College in Hockey, Netball, and Football. Across all sports, there were many closely contested games, with students displaying great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

It was wonderful to see our players’ skills in their chosen sports improve as the day progressed, along with their confidence. Students embraced every opportunity to learn, challenge themselves, and support one another, making the day a wonderful experience for all involved.

A highlight of the carnival was the outstanding leadership shown by our older students. They consistently encouraged their teammates, ensured everyone was included, and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship both on and off the field. They should be very proud of the example they set for our younger students.

Changes to the football fixtures meant that only two teams competed on the day. The first two matches were incredibly close, with each team claiming a one-point victory, meaning the result came down to the third and final game. Scores were locked together until three-quarter time, when St Mary’s managed to gain a slight advantage and hold on to secure the overall football victory for the day.

The netball competition was equally exciting, with several tightly contested matches. The results were so close that the battle for second place ultimately had to be decided on a countback.

Hockey was another closely fought competition. While goals proved difficult to come by, resulting in several drawn games, this never stopped our students from giving their all. Their persistence, teamwork, and positive attitudes were evident throughout the day.
