Science

Science is a specialist learning area at St Mary’s School for all students from Kindergarten to Year Six.

The students learn to investigate, understand and communicate about physical, biological, chemical and earth and space sciences. They have the opportunity to become critical thinkers by using evidence to evaluate the use of science in our lives.

The learning outcomes develop the students’ scientific literacy in:

  • scientific knowledge and the use of that knowledge to identify questions, acquire new knowledge, explain scientific investigations and draw evidence based conclusions about science related issues.
  • understanding the characteristic features of science as a form of human knowledge and enquiry
  • being aware of how science and technology shape our material, intellectual and cultural environments.
  • the willingness to engage in science-related issues with the ideas of science.
